Kungu Designs

Back when I first got my new DSLR I went for a half day creative into Leicester.

The day didn't go particularly well; I managed to take off the front under engine cover on a low wall at New Walk Museum. This threw me all out of kilter and by the time I got into Leicester city centre, to take some street photography, I wasn't in a great place mentally.

Then I had a run in with some halfwit on the market, who complained about me taking his picture when I hadn't even pointed my camera at him.

That was really the final straw and I wandered around a bit, taking a few photos, but my heart just wasn't in it.

The only redeeming thing about the day was meeting a nice guy who let me photograph him on his fine art stall in Leicester's indoor market.

He was relaxed, intelligent and accommodating and, after asking why I was shooting and getting a satisfactory answer, preceded to let me get on with taking some photos.

I'm afraid the shots I took were pretty unspectacular — I just didn't have much enthusiasm left, which was a shame; his stall was adorned with so many wonderfully colourful pieces of art.

My hope is to go back some time and try to photograph him again, and this time to capture more about him, his art and his story.

Just so you know, the gentleman has a shop at 211 Wigston Lane, Aylestone, Leicester and the business is Kungu Designs. He is also on Facebook.
