Socks on!

Something a little different today.

No I don't mean the subject, but rather the medium. Today's shot was taken on my father-in-law's old Nikon FE.

One of my Christmas presents is a 'build your own SLR' kit. I was in Tesco the other day and found some 35mm film so I thought I'd have a bit of a play. As I hadn't made the camera yet — it is supposed to take a few hours, and looking at the fiddly components, I can see why — I thought I'd have a bit of fun with another film camera, and Malc was kind enough to break out his old kit. All the FE needed was a couple of batteries for metering and away I went.

It was a bit strange manually focussing, but before long I got the hang of it. I did have to keep stopping myself from pressing the shutter release to focus, or from looking at the back of the camera to preview the image I had just taken!

Before long I had rattled off 24 shots. After a quick trip to get the film developed, I have a a nice set of 24 prints and images on a CD. I love the colour and dynamic range of the photos, and this is using some bog standard film available from the local supermarket.

I think I might have to look a little further into this film camera lark. Great fun!
