Mat and Noo kissing Blog Header

I haven't put up any photos of Noo, (my girlfriend Nikki,) and I recently. Here we are, (so anyone who doesn't know us can now put names to faces). Welcome!

A brief instance of time
28th November 2007

I have been a bit slack updating imagi recently. I hope in the New Year I can fill the blog with something interesting to say and exciting photos with more regularity.

At work we have a few new staff members who I haven't even mentioned on my blog. Suzanne is the new, part-time marketing recruit who has worked with some big names in the business and is fun and energetic. Laura is her niece and a temp who is helping us with our database. She is really easy to talk to, hardworking and great to have around. And last, but not least, there is Kendrick, our new artworker. His friendly nature is matched only by his interest to learn and willingness to work very hard. He has fitted straight in and I know the whole team will be stronger for his contribution.

Third person

Like most people Nik and I are desperately trying to get Christmas presents sorted before the last few days of the holiday, but it seems that is easier said than done. I did intend to order most of our gifts online but we haven't sorted them out yet and I just hope it doesn't culminate in a Christmas Eve shopping trip, loaded with bags, banging into every insane Christmas shopper. Sod that!

Oh and tonight's photo is an abstract from a while ago. I came back from the gym and just randomly chose a photo to process. You know, just for a change.

My friend Minty has bought one of the new iPhones and I am jealous. I don't fancy the tariff but the phone is pretty much the same price as an iPod Touch (in contract). It's one of things I would love to have and, just like my iPod, probably wouldn't use that much. But they look so snazzy! It is literally like the touch pads you used to see in series of Star Trek. Who would have thought, back when I was a student in the early nineties, that you would have a touch screen telephone that played music and video, browsed the web and was as thin as a pencil. Fantastic!

I wonder where technology will be in the years to come?

More wedding snaps.

Third person

Like most people at the moment my Noo is getting into Facebook. I must admit I haven't got that into the Facebook phenomena but I have promised to set up an account at some point.

My photo buddy from work is selling his studio lighting, which he rarely uses. Any photographers that come here and are interested, I can vouch for their state. Ian is meticulous in looking after them and I know he has rarely gets them out, (hence the sale). I would get the lights but I blew any savings I had on a holiday.

More wedding shots, this time from the view of another wedding-goer.

The sunny waitress
22nd November 2007

I don't have anything new at the moment. I am having withdrawals from not picking up my D200.

I had a great dream last night, when I finally managed to get to sleep. I won loads of money and bought everyone I knew exactly what they wanted. Santa syndrome anyone?

This is a shot of one of the waitresses at the wedding Nik and I went to in August.

More from the Hillies
20th November 2007

Poor ol' Noo was complaining that I don't have many photos of her so here is one.

More Hillies!

I am starting to think the problems I have been having with my home network are from Leopard and not my hardware as I previously surmised. You always get teething troubles with a new version of an OS, so it is my fault for not waiting and installing the new OS X before these troubles have been dealt with. Ah well! That's an only child for you. Never could wait for anything.

Router 666
18th November 2007

I did have more photos to put up but I have been having problems with my router, which thankfully seems to be 'playing-ball' after a reset.

Jake

Here then is a quick black and white portrait shot from the Barrow Babies shoot. Jake, the baby in the shot, never was that enamored with the camera, as you can see. Come to think of it not many of the babies did like the D200, and they liked the flash even less.

Dans la tour
15th November 2007

I thought we would have a break from the fireworks with this shot from inside the Tour Eiffel from my trip to Paris. Nik and I really enjoyed our break early this year and really have to go and visit more European cities. (And at least the flights aren't that long).

Dans la tour

It is poker tomorrow so no more 'photees' until the weekend.

And I am finally feeling better and shifting the cold!

Magic
13th November 2007

I have been off shooting a catalogue for a client in Coalville (strange place) which went fantastically.

The models we use are great to work with and so professional. It makes such a difference photographing pros with the way they hold themselves in their different poses making the photos I took work so well.

Magicfire

I have a bit of cold at the moment but have just enough energy to post another firework night shot of sparkler shapes the girls made.

The riddle of fire
11th November 2007

Not sure about you folks but I have always loved fire. I love the direct feeling of warmth it issues forth, the way it can permeate your very being. Today at the sauna I closed my eyes and for a moment I could have been in some Mediterranean country on a hot summers day. I remarked on this to one of the other guys in the sauna saying, 'if we only had the sounds of crickets I could really believe I was on holiday'. To which the other chap agreed and added, 'Sea waves would help too'. I can't wait until Nik and I go on holiday... anyway, I digress.

So, is this deep seated pyromania or evolutionary memory? This riddle that is the 'love of fire' is strange.

I remember Backdraft, a not so great Ron Howard movie in the 90s about firefighters, in which he made fire out to be almost sentient and I must admit to always liking that imagery.

The riddle of fire

My point , (and yes I do have one), is to explain why I am posting this particular image (above). This photo is from the weekend we had here with fireworks (again) and I remember staring into the hot embers for quite a while, lost in thought, and bathed in deep, undulating waves of warm comfort.

You can really imagine what our ancestors would have been like when they discovered fire. It must have seemed like magic.

Spots
9th November 2007

I installed the new Mac OS Leopard tonight. It was a bit risky considering it is just out and these new systems tend to take a while to iron out the bugs, but hey, so far it seems ok and the new features are fun and possibly even useful.

Vortex

This is the first actual firework photo I have added so far. I was going to go to Loughborough, as they have a fair on and I thought it might be nice to get some photos, but in the end the installation of a new OS took precedence.

...fire, duh, deh, der...
6th November 2007

This time of year is all well and good having fun with explosives but I must admit to feeling bad for all the people and animals who really don't like all these fireworks. Domestic animals go crazy so god knows what the wild creatures do.

I think after viewing different peoples opinions I am for fireworks but less of the ones that sound like incoming artillery. I mean some of the ones we had at the weekend hurt my ears so the animals must have found it unbearable.

Which also leads to the point of here we are in England, happily shooting rockets and blowing things up when half way around the world people have to live with this s&*t for real.

Hearts on Fire

One more sparkler pic to add tonight, this time from the girls drawing nice girly hearts in the air. Arr, how cute! (Chicks man. I dunno!?)

I am the God of Hellfire and I bring you...
4th November 2007

We had a fireworks show at mine over the weekend and it was brilliant. Rik, (my girlfriend's brother), came over and organised the display while I took some photos of the show. The girls cooked and I lit the barbeque so we could keep warm and cook the food outside while we watched the lights. It was so much fun and I even managed to get one or two interesting photos.

I didn't quite get some of the larger explosive shots I was after but this was mainly due to the fireworks being very small and quick. Also, unlike big shows, for safety we shot fireworks off one at a time and so I couldn't really get a picture of the sky full of explosions. Of course I can combine shots later in photoshop to fill the scene but it would have been nice to get a great expanse of light.

Firework Matty

I am starting these shots off above with this rather abstract shot of me drawn with the light from sparklers.

Oh and nice one Arthur Brown for the song. It rocks!

1st November 2007

I am kinda glad I processed a load of shots at the start of the week, to give me the jump on updating the site for the month. Doing new graphics for each time around on imagi sometimes can be a bit of a pain.

One voice

Well, I think we can start this month how we finished the last. That's right, more wedding photos!

I forget that I was a guest at the wedding and not there to shoot photos. It means that a lot of the shots were spur-of-the-moment and consequently now need a lot of clean up post-processing. Today's was so dark, noisy and still is a bit rough, but a lot better than it was.

Still It is amazing what you can do with some of the software now-a-days. With the release of the new Capture One Pro, it seems you can do even more. Their recovery feature for blown highlights is pretty impressive. You can download the beta 2 from their site now.

I will do something other than wedding shots tomorrow or saturday. Promise!
